SEO linkbuilding has become one of the main high leverage activities in any online business. The simple fact is that backlinks will give you a high page rank and a high page rank will rank you higher in the SERP's. Obviously this means more traffic and more money.
Backlinks make up 90% of your Google rank and because of this linkbuilding has taken on a life of it's own. Most people seem to misunderstand it complete. For starters you should know that not all back links are good links. They can actually hurt you more than help you.
SEO Linkbuilding is all about building links that are natural. Google did not design their ranking system to be manipulated. It was designed to reward good sites that get linked to naturally. That's why getting the right links can be incredibly difficult if you try and do it manually.
Unfortunately you have to build links these days otherwise you will not be competitive. If you sit around and wait for sites to link to you, you might wait forever. The good thing is that this also give the "small guy" a fair shake to get good rankings in Google, Yahoo and MSN.
Most guys build back links "kamikaze style" - that is they go ion there and just get as many links they can from wherever they can and at whatever cost. This is a recipe for disaster. Once your site gets marked by Google, you might as well start over again.
Rogue linkbuilding techniques can render months of hard work useless, so be very careful when building backlinks. Here are the 7 deadly SEO linkbuilding mistakes. Avoid them at all costs.
Mistake #1: Mass Link Packages
Obviously some sleazy and unscrupulous people are out there selling link packages that are not even worth a mention. Most of the time they blast ads out to classified directories or other spam filled network. These links are the equivalent of buying spam email lists. Don't do it. Your links might end up on banned sites that can really hurt your Google image.
Mistake #2: Link Exchanges
Back in the day, exchanging links was the main SEO linkbuilding strategy. You link to me, I link to you and we both win. Right? Wrong! Google caught on to this when hundreds of link farms opened up. Google can easily trace reciprocal links and they simply don't count for much anymore. Getting links from big link exchange networks can actually hurt you.
Mistake #3: Linking From Non-Indexed Sites
Most people who spend hours building those free backlinks make the mistake of building links on non-indexed sites. For your back links to count, the page on which you have your link has to be indexed. Having links on non-indexed pages means nothing. It's a waste of time.
Mistake #4: Not Using Anchor Text
At first this probably won't sound too scary, but if you build 2,000 links without relevant anchor text your site can easily pass for a spam site that just gets random links. By using anchor text that is related to your site, it gives your links linkjuice - meaning it makes your links relevant and increases the perceived value of each link.
Mistake #5: Not Being Relevant
Google is getting smarter by the day. After all it is their business to provide the most relevant information for each and every search that is conducted. If they don't people will stop using Google. That's why they protect it so vigorously. When you get back links from relevant and related sites that would naturally link to you, then the link count for a lot. Unrelated and random links from any old site really does not make Google see your site as being important.
Mistake #6: Inorganic links
As I mentioned earlier, Google designed the page rank system to work organically. They are looking for links to come to your site naturally. For the most part that means, slowly and consistently over time from a variety of related sites. If you go and get 1000 links overnight from the same site then Google's alarms will go off and you might land yourself in some backlinking trouble with the big G. Slow and steady wins the race - especially if you have a new site.
Mistake #7: Buying Links
High PR backlinks are worth gold. Quite literally. I've seen a single PR7 link sell for as much as $250 per year. There are a lot of link networks out there that make it their business to sell links on high PR sites. These links have become quite expensive, but the lure of instant results have people buying links like it's going out of fashion. Google is catching on and there's been widespread reports of Google slapping page rank. If links are publicly traded then Google can probably trace them and penalize you.
SEO linkbuilding is all about being as natural and as organic as possible. Always go after links that are 1-way, relevant and on sites with a high page rank. If you can get links on pages with a high page rank, even better. Don't fall for the quick-fix promise of so many link building services. In the long run, slow and steady links that look natural will keep sending more and more traffic your way.

There are a lot of things in the computer world that people tend to find mysterious and they see as touching upon black magic. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is one of those things that ranks way up there on the mystery and black magic scale. Today, the term has expanded to Search Engine Marketing which includes paid advertising and other online marketing activities but for our purposes we'll stick with SEO.
SEO is the practice of promoting a web site by increasing its position in search results on the major search engines. Those search engines comprise of Google mainly but also include Yahoo!, Bing, and a few others. The idea is to make the site appear higher in the list of search results than similar sites. This is referred to as "organic" SEO meaning that the rank came as a result of plain old search results rather than having to pay for placement on the search engine.
There's a lot of value in getting it right as far as SEO goes. First of all it's free and second of all, web searches are becoming the primary means of finding information. Primary among the search engines is Google and according to some market research, Google commanded an incredible 81.22% of the global market share in June 2009. Google's success is punctuated by the fact that the word "Google" has found its way into the dictionary.
The primary goal of the search engines is to bring relevant search results to their users. When a user types in a search phrase, a search engine is successful when it delivers the information the user is searching for. If a search engine is unable to deliver relevant information it simply won't be long on the digital scene.
Performing this feat is the result of a mix of highly sophisticated programming, incredibly powerful servers, and perhaps some eye of newt and toe of frog thrown in for good measure.
Seriously, however, the full mechanics of how search engines rank web pages are kept highly confidential. It simply has to be that way or the bad guys of the world would use the knowledge to artificially inflate their own rankings.
There are some fundamental truths in SEO and it is fair to say that search engines today consider the following when ranking a given web page:

The content of the page - what it's about, what words are used prominently.
What words are used in the title of the page?
What words are used in the URL of the page?
What words are highlighted on the page?
What internal links (links from other pages on the same site) point to it?
How many external links point to it and more importantly, whether those pages are relevant to the page's subject matter?
The text used to form the internal and external links.
Even the age of the domain name plays a role in its ranking!

There is a lot more involved of course and that list could have gone on for a while. Factors such as keywords, the use of images and Flash animations, and the design of the site itself also play a role in a page's ranking.Good SEO checklists can be found on the web but probably the most important thing to think about doesn't involve search engines at all. That's the quality of the content.
Ultimately a search engine's goal is to return relevant information to its visitors. As such, search engines have become very sophisticated at figuring out whether or not content is relevant to the search term and indeed, whether a human would find it interesting.
SEO is a fascinating subject and the search engines are incredibly complex examples of computer programming. They are so good in fact that the best advice one could give someone looking to increase their placement is - write your content for people and not the search engines. You'll be rewarded for it.

Bing is doing its best to differentiate itself from Google. Attempting to claim some high ground, Microsoft is positioning Bing as the world's first "decision engine" as opposed to its predecessors, the search engines. Differentiation requires using different algorithms and a new design on the search engine results page. New design or not the SERP's on Bing do resemble Google's at first glance.
Depending on the search, Bing delivers either highly relevant results or something a little less so. Searches in Microsoft's wheelhouse of health, local, travel, and shopping are better than most others on Bing. The wheelhouse group was not arrived at by accident. These markets carry high potential for advertising revenues and have historically been among the highest revenue generators on the internet.
Bing isn't going as far as saying that it will change search engine optimization, yet. In early June, a whitepaper released by Bing's Webmaster Center Team stated "Ultimately, SEO is still SEO. Bing doesn't change that. Bing's new user interface design simply adds new opportunities to searchers to find what the information they want more quickly and easily, and that benefits webmasters who have taken the time to work on the quality of their content and website design."
The Bing Team emphasizes that good content and SEO are crucial elements in website design so it appears that what applies to Google and Yahoo will work with Bing. It also appears that attempts to optimize for Bing will bring similar results to the other search engines as well. The Bing team hasn't given much other information beyond emphasizing on page content and standard SEO practices and maybe that what's important at the moment. Based on PowerSet, Bing will definitely give more weight to content, at the expense of visuals.
Still in its infancy, Bing will need to broaden its wheelhouse to avoid turning off searchers that come over for a try, find a bunch of irrelevant results and never return. Initial traffic numbers were conflicted but it appeared that Bing had attracted some significant numbers, whether at the expense of Google and Yahoo, or not. The rest remains to be seen.

There are a ton of laid off folks that are attempting to make money on the internet and join the ranks of all the self-promoters online. Many of them have never made money online themselves, but offer services coaching others on how to make money online.

Not long ago, someone contacted me from Cincinnati OH and they'd been laid off from a teaching position. So, she decided to realize her dream of becoming an online marketer, and since she has an MA degree in teaching, she believes she qualified to teach others how market themselves, develop a following, strengthen their personal brand name, and thus, make money online.
In fact, she bragged about how well she was doing "coaching" and helping people market their businesses online. This is all well and good, and yet, when asked how much money she has personally made "marketing products online" her answer goes something like this; I am just getting started. However, you see, the reason I feel this is relevant is because there are tons of coaches out there claiming to have the answer to help others market online, and yet, they haven't been successful yet at it themselves.
Do you feel such people are ethical?
Personally, I am completely disgusted with such folks. I think it is pathetic really, and I for one don't ever want to associate myself with anyone like that. Of course, many of these types of start-up online marketers say things like I have gotten instruction from the "best of the best online marketers" and I am using this to launch my business.
Who is this so-called "Best of the Best Online Marketers" and have they ever successfully marketed anything themselves or are they just successful at convincing others of their "great successes" and I must tell you, I am blown away by all the fraud out there online, and it really irks me.
Finally, I question much of the methodology of those who are marketing online. For a laid off teacher in this case, my question might go something like this; "so, you are going to use your "college education" to teach entrepreneurs in the "real world" how to make money online? Is that it? And you've made no money online yourself, and you are laid off from teaching?"
Indeed, I hope you are not duped into thinking you are going to get rich peddling trinkets online, and I hope you are ethical in your internet marketing endeavors. Please consider all this.

I've written before about Doug Cooper, a self proclaimed SEO, there's no stopping this guy, although he gave up his hold on the domain name of a ex-client(after we reported him to Icann and godaddy, his unprofessional was a shock to this real SEO professional. I came into contact chiropractor who was being ripped off by this SEO cowboy, so agreed to help him get control back of his domain name and blog. Although Doug Cooper never gave access it the blog, after we reported him to icann for holding a domain name of a clients, he did surrender the website name. About being unprofessional though, this guy takes the cake, simple emails requesting he give access back to a domain name, was replied to in several long involved emails, where he not only outlined, but also gave long explanations of how this client had wronged him, telling personal information about his client, something he had not right or reason to do, we only ever read the first couple of lines, and would reply that all we were only interested in getting was the domain name back into the control of his client, where it was supposed to have been in the first place. This poor client, paid over $2000 and since this seo cowboy never gave the logins to the blog, all this ex-client got was 3 months hosting, the blog is still locked, so we rebuilt it, but changing the wording to actually making it SEO friendly. SEO for Several Similar Websites

Doing search engine optimization for more than one website, always costs less than it would doing SEO for 1 website times how many websites there are. That's confusing I guess, so look at this example. A client has 5 hotels in various parts of the world, they have one big website and 5 smaller websites for each of the hotels 6 websites altogether. If I had 6 individual motels approach me, and say we decided on $3500 for each website, you could think that the owner of the 6 websites could expect to pay $21,000 perhaps more since one website is a bigger. But no, 6 websites that have a similar theme and working on them at the same time would cost nowhere near $21,000 I in fact just did a quote for this example, and the total was $14,000.... so in fact almost 2 websites will be free. And the seo on all websites will be better, worth more than if I had done them individually. I'm also working with a local dentist who is having 3 websites rebuilt and extensive local seo done, there are a lot of other work being done for this client, but his bill is still less than what it would have cost for 3 individual websites, support sites, and extensive local SEO. That's just proof of how quickly any seo work, or changes to a blog or website can get into search engines. How long will it stay ranked that well, who knows, but I'll keep writing about this seo cowboy until I think enough people know about him, and at least can make an informed decision about working with him. San Diego SEO rip-off holding domain name

My last post was about a bad seo in San Diego, http://seointernetmarketingseo.blogspot.com/2009/05/seo-san-diego-2000-for-3-months-seo.html the plot thickens, although this seo charged this client $2000 to create this blog I spoke about in that post, now this SEO is threatening to hold the domain name he brought for the client. When I say hold, I mean keep it and use it to another unsuspecting client. He's also not going to give his client the blog he created, which would only take a couple of minutes to download, zip up and send to the client.... this sux bigtime. The domain name is a good one seowise it's www.painreliefsd.com the sd at the end is for San Diego, so this seo cowboy could reuse this generic domain name for many clients, at the moment it's still being used for www.mairschiropractic.com I wonder how many times this seo cowboy is going to use this name and for how many clients. My client a chiropracter in Mission Valley, was reluctant to give me this cowboys name, but doing a few searches, I found out this rippoff SEO's name is Doug Cooper and his company is freshcutinteractive.com if you are considering using him, I suggest you contact the chiropracter above and ask him for a reference, I'll be doing some checking around about him myself. If you are already one of his clients, and are happy enough with your seo results, make sure you ask this guy to transfer any domains he has brought for you to you. SEO San Diego $2000 for 3 months SEO Cowboy

I have yet another seo client, a new client, this time a chiropractor who operates down in Mission Valley. He's been burnt by an seo cowboy here in San Diego. SEO cowboys make me so mad, it's so annoying to have these sleazy SEO's give SEO's in general a bad name. This SEO Cowboy Charges $2000 for 3 months SEO services, a far enough price you might think, and it is a good price for what this SEO on the surface has done, the results after a couple of weeks... So what did this SEO Cowboy from San Diego do? Built a website, which is I guess ok looking, no I don't, the pages aren't ok, no graphics at all, no text formatting, just a dark brown site, (Brown for a site about health and pain relief, I don't think so) this pretty "home built" looking website was 13 webpages again nothing special, (in fact darn boring pages) but 13 webpages. Initial less than basic SEO. Whats else is wrong with that you may wonder? Darn near everything!!

The content for all the pages has been copied and pasted from other websites on the internet.
Pages have so called references from Patients, they may have been partly true, but they had been doctored or faked, in a lame attempt at SEO.
Links off site. there are several links to other websites that aren't necessary. (except the text was an exact copy from these other websites) Some of these links opened in the same window.
There's a novice SEO theory that "If you repeat any keywords or a phrase on a webpage or webpages enough you will probably rank ok for that exact phrase". But there only so many times a website visitor wants to read a phrase on a website, this sleazy SEO used the same phrase an average of 20 times on every page.
The site itself was built on a popular Free blog template site, so there was absolutely no skills whatsoever required to build.
On this SEO's website they gloat about some of the SEO jobs they have done, and the results of their work, 2 places I rang, said they had never heard of this SEO cowboy, and 2 other's had said they had used him and were very upset with the results, I'm actually discussing with both these ex-clients about me doing real SEO on their sites...

Content: Coping wording from another website is illegal, unless you have the express premission from the writer of the words, this is often not the website owner. Apart from the legalities of copying text from another website, the website you copied the text from will always rank higher than yours once the search engines search results settle down. Any changes to a webpage will usually rank highly for a couple of weeks, then usually within a month the rank of the webpage will start slipping until it settles at it's new position in search engine results.** Patients References It's very obvious the references have been doctored or added too, and reflects badly on the Chiropractor, rather than the SEO that faked them. So a good chiropractor that has done some wonderful work with car accident patients, sports injuries, long term pain patients has lost credibility because this SEO Cowboy doesn't know his stuff and added . Links Links to another website, should be discouraged unless they link back to your site, which is standard practice. Links offsite should always open in a new window, otherwise you have just lost a potential customer. Keywords Any real seo knows that simply repeating particular keywords or a phrase on a webpages does gaurantee your visitors will see the those words 20 times each time they open another page and think they are overkill, but this does not guarantee a site will rank highly for those words. This cowboy SEO used a particular phrase "San Diego Chiropractic" 260 times at least one the site, and yet a search for those words in that order without, the site doesn't show in the first 10 pages of google search worst case senario should have had the site ranked at #5 on the 1st page, with the quotation marks which at the worst case senario should have had the site ranked at #5 on the 1st page, again the site didn't show in the 1 st 100 search engine placements. This is an outragously bad SEO results. If seo had of been done correctly like I would have or will do, this Chiropractors website will rank or should rank about 8th at worse case. To get to 1st for that particular phrase, since it so highly sort after would cost about $5-$8000, to rank well for say 30 other less sort after phrases, which would net possibley 6 times more visitors and consequently new patients, would cost about half that.... Changes on webpages. **This fact that any changes to a webpage will result in a temporary high ranking in search engines, is often used by cowboy or sleazy SEO's to trick their clients into believing that the SEO has worked, you really can't tell the final search engine position of SEO for about 6 weeks after the results are made. eg: a change on a webpage may result in these sorts of results. #2 A week later #3 2 weeks later, #4 3 weeks later. #13 4 weeks later #20 5 weeks later #23 final position without more seo Using Free Blogs Templates. While there's nothing wrong with using a blog template, they are notoriously idiot proof, not saying children are idiots, but I have seen websites built by 7-8 years olds that have flair or are more attractive. What I am saying is you can't charge a client as much to build a website on a blog template where menu's and layout are just a case of checking out unchecking a box that says do you want this, or that, and then copying and pasting the page content from another site, the chiroprater supplied they links or they came from his own mature site. the whole site would have taken an experienced webdesigner, maybe 2 hours to complete, with 2 coffee breaks, but a site like that can't be compared to website that has been built by a professional web designer, and the SEO thats is supposed to have been done on the site, doesn't even require an SEO cowboy to have read one chapter of an seo book.... more like about 3 paragraphs read out of context. I looked at this blog website just 7 days ago, when I was first contacted, and while it was doing ok in searches then, already those same searches for the main part, don't show this site in the results for the 1st 100 results. 2 out of the 10 search I did, faired a little better, both were at ranked 4th 7 days ago, now one is at 42nd place and one at 54rd place in search engine results, this is the worst drop in placements so quickly I have ever witnessed. Can you un-optimize my website? This week I have 2 different clients ask me if there's a way to un-optimize their website, one needs to find a larger office and more staff, the other needs a break from orders, and also has to organize employing someone into what was up until now an owner operated operation. I can't undo the work I have done, all I can do is not do anything else and give the website owners a chance to catch their breath. This brings up a very good point though, if you are thinking of having seo done on your website by me anyway, as I'm not just looking to get visitors to your website, like most SEO's, I want people do something once getting to a website, if the come look and leave, they may as well not have come.... But back to the point, if I do your SEO have you thought about how much work you can handle? Everyone that comes to me just wants more, but two clients in one week, actually two clients in two days have said ENOUGH! I have to admit, I didn't think about it for my clients, I have thought about it, and trained people to help me do various tasks, should I get to busy, and in this business things tend to come in waves. In future I will have to make sure I ask clients who much business they want, and maybe do less optimization and the start, and build up, rather than everything at the start, and then just tweaking the results. Getting Links to get on Google

I'm sure you have heard that getting links to your website is the best way to Get your site on Google, although this is correct, the number of links you have to get to your website to Get on Google Search is massive if you don't have the right type of link. What is the right type of link? That's really difficult to explain, there are so many variables, but very basically, a link from a page

that has high pagerank of it's own
is optimized for the same thing as the page it's linking too,
is of the same subject matter as the page it's linking to
where the link words are well thought out

Matt Cutts from google was talking recently about how googles :link search didn't work, I though he made some good points, this was my reply. If the :site search is random then why are the results of a search, always the same for a particular, except when a new one appears of course? What makes some links always appear for a particular site and not others, and why whenever I blog about a site, does my blog ALWAYS show and stay as a backlink....in a :link search??? me thinks there's more to the :link search than meets the eye, I have never worked out what it is in particular, and many times it doesn't make sense at all, The one thing I agree with Matt is that if Google told what these links represented, then everyone would spam them. I see a definite link between the number of back links in :link search and pagerank, but don't understand why some links in that search appear rather than others from the same site. Many websites have more than one url or domain name, there are several reasons for this, one is because a company might want to own all the different domains for the name of their business, eg. In my last post about getting on Google, I posted it before I was finished writing it something came up, anyway I'm back to post more. In the meantime I had a good comment for the last post. In the comment he referred to an SEO business he had found that that had given him an affordable price, and touched base daily. I'll look at affordable prices first, affordable is a relative term, what I consider affordable you may consider cheap, what you consider affordable, I may consider cheap. I have given quotes from $100 a month, to $11,000 a month, it goes without saying that the progress is slower for $100 a month. And $11,000 a month is almost a full time job. Getting on Google could be a lot less or a lot more expensive than you would think. I always ask a client to give me some sort of idea what their budget is, as it's no good giving a quote for $11,000 or even $1000 a month if their budget is only $250 a month. It's far less time consuming to just make the quote for what is in their price range. Links Directory's do NOT raise your Google page rank

It is a common disbelief that adding your website to directories all over the web will raise your own sites pagerank. Especially if those directories have high page rank themselves. This for the main part is NOT true, it doesn't matter how high a directory's pagerank is, but the time it get's to a level where your site is listed, the age rank is zero, and will never get any higher. There are a few directories that have been around for years, that are worth adding your site to like dmoz but the rest of them, and programs like the pageranksubmit.com are a waste of money, if all you want to do is raise your page rank. See this is genearlly how pagerank seems to work the home page of a site will have the highest page rank, links off that homepage, that are links that don't use javascript or flash, have a page rank one point lower than the home page, and then pages off these pages that aren't using javascrip or flash to make the links have a page rank of 2 less than the home page, this is generally how it works, unless the second level of pages have a large amount of links, which directory's do then the pagerank is lost by the second page, and often you have to click in 5 or 6 links deep before you get to a place to add your website. There is no page rank there, and if there's no page rank on the page your link is on, then it doesn't have any effect on your pagerank. So don't waste your money paying a high rice for directory submissions to directories with high page rank, usually the reason they have high page rank, is becuase they have used code, stopping the page rank from draining into links inside their site. SEO done right the first time

I often have people come to me unhappy with their current seo, they went to some place that you can advertise for staff or workers, made an ad, and took the lowest bid they received, and wonder why after 8 months, they still can't find their website in search engines or that all the visitors are coming from the wrong part of the world. It's no good if your business offers a local service to only San Diego Clients if your website ranks highly in India, or New York, or even Los Angles for that matter. You want your business website to reach out to clients you can sell your service to. I say in my signature below, that I'm not cheap, but I get results, I have had mature websites, ranking in top search engine positions, within 2 days of starting their optimization. Not for every phrase, Google doesn't go through a whole website that quickly, and thats impossible anyway, to rank highly for every single keyword, but results started appearing with 2 days. At most on a website that has been online for say at least a year, the first results start appearing in a week and usually settle down to where they are going to stay without more tweaking within 6 weeks. Google Sitemap & Yahoo Sitemap how much should they cost

One of my clients emailed me this morning, upset that this SEO place in Washington had emailed him saying he needed a Google Sitemap & Yahoo Sitemap, and they offered the service of making them and doing the initial registration. They are charging something like $375 for this service of making a google sitemap and a yahoo sitemap and registraion this should cost about $50. To make a google or yahoo site map takes not more than 5 minutes, theres a program you can run that collects all the urls on your website, and the registration should be done by the owner of the website, or a trusted SEO, because that gives the person that did the registration access to confidential information about your website. This doing the registration for you particularly concerns me, becasue with a google site map in particular the information google is now offering is pretty outstanding. It's telling you how many searches your site is appearing, and how your site ranked in these searches. So really with this type "professional" that uses "Indian SEO type client finding techniques" who's making you pay for $375 for something that should cost about $50 at most, and this person would have access to your website statistics, and therefore could get in touch again, saying, oh you really need this type or that type of SEO done, probably link building, and looking at their site I see they charge $3500-$3000 per month for a link building campaign, thats pretty good pay for one link building tech, I don't charge anything like that for a monthly SEO campaign. A website can never have enough links to it, never, but there does come a time when the site has enough to go one with, and people start emailing you and asking for links, thats when I stop doing links, becuase the job is time consuming and getting one good link can take hours out of a monthly SEO campaign. I offer link building as part of my monthly seo packages. Sure I wouldn't give you hundreds of one way links or recip links, but google get's suspicious when a lot of links appear to a website all of a sudden, it's better to have say 10 good links rather than 500 crappy ones a month. Anyway, just be careful if you get an email from this place in Washington or anywhere, thats offering Google SiteMaps and Yahoo Sitemaps for $375, the aren't offering anything except a way to get more seo work from you for themselves. Catering to Google when I do SEO on a website. Always, when I do SEO on a website I cater to Google, and only to Google. Years ago I also used to work with yahoo, but found after a year of doing SEO for yahoo and Google equally, I found that the number of visitors to the site approximately 580 visitors came through Google searches to every 1 through yahoo. So I switched to spending all my time doing SEO for Google, and within 5 months visitors have quadrupled from Google. Every now and again a client will insist on their site being optimised for Yahoo, and the stats have changed, now for every 500 searches finding the site using Google, between 3-10 visitors come through Yahoo. Because I don't usually optimise for Yahoo, it doesn't mean that Yahoo doesn't pick up the site, often in fact Yahoo has indexed as many pages as Google has, but search results don't tend to be that high compared to google, unless of course you pay to have your pages indexed by yahoo then things change, but still not enough to warrant the cost, but the SEO I do for the main part, is done in a way that when I finish doing the SEO the sites owner doesn't have to keep paying for adverts everywhere, the results in Google will stay pretty much as they are as when I finish. Website Builders, or people that build websites usually refer to themselves as website designers, yet actually this isn't strictly correct, there are several steps to building a website, and web design, and website building are two very different steps. Indian SEO's You don't even get what you pay for

I have recently taken on yet another SEO job, from a business that was using an Indian SEO company. The owner decided to change SEO, because he found a website that shows where the website visitors are coming to your website from, and 98% of visitors were from Indian IP addresses.... This is a business which operates strictly in California, Texas, and Florida, although they are looking at expanding to other states, but not internationally. This business has been having the Indian SEO team work on his business website for several months, they charge $250 a month.... The owner sent me the last monthly report of what they had done it was about 12 pages long and looked at a glance, to someone that didn't understand what they were reading rather impressive. HOWEVER: I looked at it, and in fact what they had supposed to have done would only take about 30 minutes to do. Let me explain. They had changed 1 links on 7 pages, to show as bold rather than normal text. In Dreamweaver, this would take about 5 minutes, with search and replace, so the 5 minutes includes opening the program and pages to be changed. They had added the phone number to the same 7 pages meta tags, since dreamweaver is now open, as are the pages they are working on, this would only take about 1 minute. Added alt tags to 5 images on the same page, this has to be done manually, since the wording was different, but still with copy and paste, it would only take about 10 minutes. Validated 4 webpages. And fixed errors, that they had made in the first place, I won't even uote a time on that, because you can't chanrge clients to fix mistakes you made.... well I don't Submitted 2 blogs to 2 blog search engines.... 5 minutes... if you are any kind of SEO you would already have the links to the submit page. Submitted site to 30 social bookmarking sites, 10 of these sites were not written in English, so of little use. This would cost me $5 to have done. They had 40 directory submissions done, this job a subcontract and would cost me $10 Link Exchange 39 link exchanges... this is an interesting one, because I checked this site for broken links, and many of these "Link Exchanges" had broken links to them, done purposely, and

If you actually looked at the domain names, 25 were the same as the directory submissions above
a few the site didn't even exist, something you wouldn't notice if you didn't check.
many of these places were just directory type places, and had no real website so they weren't real link exchanges which takes a lot of time to do. so again
many of the real sites were again non-English sites.

Since these changes had no real value, Adding the broken links to this sites pages 15 minutes at most So thats 30 minutes, and $15 work, now writing the report, THAT would have taken a good 2 to 3 hours to colate all the information, and get it looking good, and read 12 pages long, in a pdf.... but still the business was paying $250 a month, for 30 minutes, and $15 work I'm charging an extra $100 a month, so $350 total, and have already spent 8 hours working on the SEO for his site, when I do seo on a regular monthly bases for a business, I find the best way to do the work is as soon that months payment clears, I do the work for the month, that way they SEO services I provide, are working for the website before the next month payment is due. Spoke seems to be a ripoff

Well I signed up with Spoke, but it seems you find out after jumping through all their hoops, that the only way to do anything is to pay for it.... Darn, I NEVER pay for anything online, until I see what they really have to offer, there are just too many ripoff places out there, and my feeling is, if you can't even have a few days free full membership, to see whats for offer, then it isn't worth paying for, cause they are hiding something.

Anyway, I wrote a pretty good intro, so thought I would post it here, so you can read a bit more about me and what I so.

Meta tags or No Meta tags

SEO professionals fall on different sides of the fence on this question, some believe meta tags are not required, as search engines don't use them. This is not true, the truth is meta tags, especially the keyword meta tag has been used incorrectly, or spammed over the years, as have description meta tags, or the meta tags are exactly the same on every page, which renders them useless. Google has tried to overcome these badly written meta tags, so sites won't be so affected by them. However if a website has well thought out meta tags, they will always rank better in the SERP's if that is the only difference in the algorithm. So if meta tags are used correctly, they work very well, adding precious keywords to your webpage and it's search engine algorithm. I find it interesting that when I visit a website of an seo that says meta tags aren't of use anymore, often their own meta tags are badly written if they are there at all!!! Using Google Adwords vs SEO

SEO is used to get your website in general, ranking highly in Search Engines. I say your website in general, since a good SEO will make sure that ever page on your website, would attract visitors in for different products and or services, since it's a well know fact that people searching for the same product or service will probably all search Google using different search phrases. EG. I'm just starting with the optimization a website for a Dentist in Chula Vista, San Deigo, CA but how would you search for his website? Or what would you put in the search engine to search. There are literally hundreds of ways it could be searched for. Think about it for a minute. My traffic has really increased over the past few months, and I’m getting just under 10,000 unique visitors a month. Before any of the SEO work started, I was getting about 6,000 visitors per month. 3. What is your average monthly amount of only inquiries? Very few of “only inquiries”. Most of the people that visit my site purchase products from me directly on the website – they don’t do an enquiry first. The first point of contact I get from people is the sale. This is better for me, as it means that less time is taken up answering enquiries and emails. As of January 2009, I am getting about 3 times increase in sales per week compared to before the SEO started. 4. In what search engines do you rank well and what are some of your page ranks in the SE's? well in the google search engine which everyone uses, my products come up in first or second position. This is true for the majority of the products that I sell, and the keywords that we have been targeting. The site also shows up in other search engines of course too. I have stopped using the Google Adwords campaign now, as that was getting redundant because my pages are showing at the top I don’t need to pay for the adwords at the side of the page. Before we started the SEO work, my page rank was 1. I have had my site for four years, and it was only page rank 1. I can't take all the credit for how Frances' Breastfeeding Products Online Store howw her Site is Ranking in Search Engines, well I can.... but also the work that she has put into her site is a real credit to her as she said she was already getting 6000 unique (visitors to the site that haven't been there before) so 6000 unique visitors before I started. Her total number of visitors is of course much higher again, but that's because she offers a great service and her clients are coming back. I have made suggestion for all sorts of changes to her website, and the next day, she has made the changes and asking about what else she could do. She had already started a Breastfeeding Blog and only made a few posts, once I explained the best way to use a blog, she went ahead and has made 230 posts in her blog in 4 months, which are resulting in over 1200 visitors going to her website after reading her blog posts. I just did a check yesterday, 2864 different keywords and keyphrases have been used to find her website in search engines so far this month, that's a lot of different ways people have searched for her breastfeeding products. Looking at the top 200 keywords people used to find her website, only 16 keywords didn't rank on the 1st page of google search results, 150 of those 200 keywords were all in the top 5 positions in Google search results, and just over 100 where number #1 on Page 1 of google. I know what I have said is a bit geeky, but basically Frances Online Breastfeeding Products Store was doing pretty well in search engines before I started being her SEO consultant, so although she's only getting an extra 4000 visitors to her website, she's getting more sales than she was, and making international sales were one of the major objectives when she requested my SEO services re: SEO Consultancy. SEO Link Words to your website

If you do a search for the two words Click Here in google and probably all search engines, the adobe pdf reader download page will rank #1. Yet no where on the actual page are the words click here mentioned. So how does it rank #1. How indeed.... it's from the millions of websites that tell people to Click Here to download the PDF reader. This just shows how links to your site, or the words in those links can rank your site for keyword that aren't even mentioned in the conventional places on a well optimized website. The problem of cause is how many links you would have to have around the internet to rank well for any set phrase. But for instance if I link to Best SEO in San Diego or San Diego's best SEO and then have those words in the conventional places a well optimized website has it's keywords, the number of times you have to have links containing the keywords, must be less. I don't know how many links using your keywords you might need, it really does depend on each websites competition, and the pagerank and number of links they have, but it would be many 100 less links, don't you think. I've recently done a marketing study for a business that sells soft fish bait, looking at all forms of advertising and working out where their advertising dollar could best be spent. There were some surprising results, well surprising for the client anyway, no I must admit I was shocked at the total. For advertising in Fishing magazines, in Yellow pages, newspapers and paid placement adverts online, the bill for a years advertising was just over $1.250,000 and even that was conservative, and at the end of that year this amount would need to be repeated. I initially told the client before I worked out the advertising budget, that if he used 2 months of his first years advertising total on SEO, he could ensure his site would have top placement for several hundred keywords and phrases. However, after I had worked out the advertising campaign, I revised my quote quite drastically, telling him that for just the last 5 figures, I could have his site ranking extremely highly for thousands of keywords and that once the work was done, the number of visitors visiting his site would stay basically the same, increasing more over time as the site and products got well known. Search Engines More people use Search Engines

WEBSITES NEEDS SEO

A study done in July 2008 by TMP Directional Marketing showed that slightly more people were now using the internet to search for local businesses than using the printed yellow pages.

This is a big change as yellowpages have always ruled for local businesses. The study also showed that people preferred to actually purchase the product offline, which was a bit of a surprise for me, but with problems with secure websites or lack of secure websites, I guess I can see that although people found the product they wanted online, they prefer to go to their local store to buy it.

his development though begs the question should businesses that only cater to local clients spend more money on SEO rather than adding shopping carts to their websites. Sure display your product range and prices, but if your site can't be found in search engines, then your website is perhaps a waste of time, unless of course you are happy to keep paying for advertising showing your url or something like google adwords.

Many business owners don't understand that SEO costs less than even a ½ page advertisement on a newspaper, and once SEO is done, it keeps working month after month, whereas a newspaper add is disposed of within a day or to.

I must admit I haven't priced yellow pages printed ad's here in San Diego, and yellowpages are kept unlike newspapers, but still yellowpages only last for a year, SEO is forever.

Sure as your competitors get their websites SEOed you may have to get your SEO to update your website.

I maybe one of the last SEO's that actually refuse to work on a competitors website, although realistically I could, and just make sure they don't compete for the exact same keywords and phrases.

Problems with cheap websites

I have been asked to take over and work with various Indian programmers, after they have baffled the website owner, don't get me wrong, I'm sure many Indian programmers do a good job, I've just never come across any.

I did a quick tally last night, and I figure I have worked with 14 different Indian programming companies. And I know my name is on a blacklist somewhere on an Indian coders forum, because I insist that a website works, because the last programmer told me so, when he was getting angry with me, he rang me and said, I should never have worked with you, blah blah blah, I thought that was pretty cool, people are being warned about working with me, because I insist that the work be done correctly, that everything works, and when it comes to beta testing a site I would find every tiny problem.

That's a pretty good name to have I would say. I'm proud of it.

As an example of some problems I have come up with, problems that I've come up against, the first place I worked with, I assumed that if a feature was mentioned that that feature would then work, that's a reasonable assumption I would say.

One I particularly remember, because now I think it so funny but got me so mad at the time. We worked on a site that had 3 levels of website user, the top level coaches, then registered members, then general site users, a coach could sell products or services through the site. And one feature was the ability for coaches to say that website members that made bookings for a seminar before a specific date would get an early bird special discount price. That's a pretty normal way of working right?

When the site was finished, sure enough the coach could there was a place to put an early bird price, but at first it didn't show on the page when a website member looked at the details of the seminar. When I made an issue of this, the programmer said he didn't even know what that early bird thing meant, so just put a text box, so the coach could add this.

I thought well fair enough I guess, different countries different ways of doing things, so I explained how it should work. That was fixed duly, and all seemed well. Until I was beta testing as a registered member and noticed that although the features was there, and it said on the seminar page there was a discount, that when a member made their order, they were charged the normal price not the early bird price. Thinking this was just an oversight, I approached the company, and asked that it be fixed, this is where the problems started.

They said that that feature was in the list of what a coach could do, but was not listed for what a member could do, which was true, it wasn't listed, and because of this the site was now going to cost more to make this feature work for members. I must say they put forward a very good argument, and to the novice building their first website they would have probably paid.

However, I hit the roof, and walls of the reply email, saying that was the dumbest thing I had ever heard, how it didn't even make sense that it or any feature wouldn't work for all people that were using the feature. Anyway to cut a long story short, I eventually got what I wanted and didn't pay anything extra for it. But that was only the first of many many such issues there were something like 62 different parts of the site that the coder actually didn't know what the work order meant, so simply didn't add the features, or added a half assed job, once the coder even admitted to me on MSN that he had hoped that a particular feature was forgotten, because he didn't have any clue how to do it.

When starting to work with these company's you will also get a multipage proposal for building your website, this will be 35 plus pdf pages, and seems to list every last detail, but a word of warning, never under any circumstance assume anything. I did in the above mentioned example, and if I hadn't of known, could have had a different outcome. They always quoted a new price whenever I mentioned a different feature not working, and if I would have paid them all, the site would have cost over 3 times as much as the original quote said.

Oh another problem we had that was really funny, on the proposal anyone visiting the site could ask the coach a question by clicking on a link which took them to a form page. However because it wasn't mentioned on the coaches list that they would receive this form, the submitted form didn't have a place to go, it was really just a dummy form. How pathetically dumb was that.

My main problem with them is they prey on unsuspecting new website owners, people that really need a helping hand, and understanding that the idea of a site will evolve as it is being built, they are offering them a cheap website, and pretending to be wonderful and helpful, ringing up talking for hours on the phone. When most often rip the poor client.

Cheap websites can end up a nightmare

I've dealt with a few website owners, over the years, who had their original website built by different Indian website designers/developers. Although the original website was cheap enough, they mistakenly agreed to have only the original developer do any changes on the site in the future or the site warrantee would be void.

One site was a comprehensive community website that originally cost only $6000 USD. Great price for the site, so no problems there, however a year down the line, and the site wanted to add a feature they wrote to the developer, and they wanted, $25,000USD that's twenty five thousand dollars USD for what was a relatively easy job even if the coding had to be written from scratch.

This is outrageous, yet sadly enough commonplace. For a new website owner really daunting.

Looking at the website warrantee or guarantee it actually only lasted for a month after the site was built, so I advised the owner of this, much to their relief.

I found a coder, and had the job done for a total of $350. The killer was that the feature the owner actually wanted added, was actually in the code all the time, and had been hidden, so all that was required was to find it, and take out the code that was hiding it. It took me longer to find a coder that actually coded in that particular coding language than it did to have the work done.

It is vital that if you get a cheap site made you don't agree to anything like this, for this very reason. I have heard story after story from owners of how these "Cheap websites" end up costing the owner a bundle of money.

Another story was a website, that at first look, seemed to be a nice website, and as long as any members joined, and did everything correctly the site worked well. And in the testing stage of the website, since the owner wasn't an experienced beta tester, he didn't realize there were no correct error controls within the site.

I went to the site, actually to become a member, I filled out the membership form, and when I submitted it, my password didn't have enough characters, when the page refreshed after the error message it was blank, so I filled it in again, this time my dyslexia kicked in and my password didn't match, again I was faced with filling in the form. After 4 tries I eventually got the form to accept, and wrote to the owner, explaining that it was a simple change in coding to make the form keep the information, when something like that happened. And told him what to ask his developers to do in geek speak.

The owner wrote back and thanked me, and said that he hadn't known of the problem, and would get it fixed. All was well. I started writing to the owner just on a friendly basis about the site, and how things were going, his idea was a good one, and I have an inquisitive nature, like hobit our hedgehog mascot.

A month later the site owner wrote to me and said he hadn't had a reply from the company, after several emails on his part, and was sick and tired of their lousy after sales service.

He told me about a couple of other issues that had been reported, and asked if our webdesign/development company would be willing to fix these issues. I by that time had found another 3 problems with the site.

I said that we'd be happy to do the work, and carry on as his developer. I suggested that I beta test the site, which he was happy for me to do. I found 24 different issues, nothing major but things that should have been found and fixed during the building and testing stage.

While looking at the code to fix a couple of small issues, I noticed that some of the code was familiar, and actually turned out to be open source code, free to use, and just had a couple of minor customizations made to it, and should never have cost the $4000 that he was charged in the first place, so even though initially he was happy with the cheap price, he was actually overcharged.

That was over 3 years ago now, and now the site works well, has had several changes made, and features added, the owner is a happy camper.

The moral of the story is, you often get what you pay for, especially when it comes to very cheap websites. And paying for someone to explain the options you have can often save you a lot in the long run.

I arrived in San Diego on the 15th, got married on the 17th, finished one seo job, and scored 2 new SEO jobs right here in San Diego on the 22nd and 24th of September. So I'm up to 9 out of my 10 clients.

Have been busy getting used to a whole new country, I'm fascinated by the black people here. I've touched 3 different peoples skin, and it's so soft, nothing like what I've always though that it would have been tough skin.

I sent her a very bad graphic of the idea I wanted and then some photos of my partner and I. Instructions that the faces should not be obvious like in the bad graphic, they should look like rocks, only when you looked at it should they become clear. To the right is that bad graphic first.

But that's not the end to the story, for those of you that can see a third face in the rocks below; that face was not intentionally added by the artist, someone else looking at it while it was drying saw it and pointed it out.

I saw it and thought… well this is part of an email I was writing to thank the artist for this lovely commissioned painting below, when I noticed it:

and the extra face, is weird, definitely a males face, the more I look at it the more it becomes someone I know or knew….those eyes and the nose, the brow… someone…. Kym my partner might know when she sees it, she's better with faces…. Oh my god, I can't believe it, it's my father. Without realising it you have added my dad to my painting.

Oh Georgie, now I'm really crying again, my Dad died before I met Kym, and I always wished he had met her, he would have loved her as much as I do.

And now in this painting, it looks Dad's watching us, oh Georgie, thank you so very very much. I could never pay you it's worth to me now it's even more precious……

SEO is just a big game, and you want to be the winner.

I have a new SEO client that's thrilled that after his new optimized website has been online for only 5 days, he's #1 for all the keyphrases he wanted to be ranked well for, when we started his site couldn't be found in the first 100 search engine results. This client did his own SEO with my help.

Like I said he's jazzed about being #1 for all these phrases, and I offered to show him, how he could improve the phrases that say at #5 and get them upto #1. He is of course interested to know, and has made an appointment, but his comment was, SEO is just a big game isn't it…. Never have truer words been spoken.

This is nothing to do with anything to do with SEO or web design and development. While moving things off my computer to an external hard drive, for my big move to the states I found this photo.

Its a photo I took, and am particularly proud of. And wanted to share with you all, it was from a stunning stage show called Pipin' hot, and this guy was Braveheart, his played the bagpipes to die for, and I don't particularly like the pagpipes, but we got free tickets to see the show and take photos of it. The show itself was outstanding, playing a music from war of the worlds, and other modern music, Would love to see that show again anytime.

The show played all over the world, but has finished now, but I just wanted to show you this picture, the © etc is there so you peeps that steal things don't steal it or at least remember where you stole it from, sorry to you others that don't steal.

When I get to the States, we have this picture large enough to print about 10 feet high, so I will get it printed, and have on the wall. If anyone wants a print, get in touch and we could arrange something I'm sure.

But isn't it a stunning photo. He was a lovely guy too… and that's coming from a dyke.

How do I get our site in the first page using SEO?

That's the easiest question I have ever had, hire me, and I'll do it.Seriously, I will do it but it all depends on exactly what words or phrases you want to be on the 1st page,or #1 in search engines for. Some sites have some SEO done, and just need that extra hand to do better, so maybe hiring me at $300USD a month for 6 months or 1 year is all you need to do, I'll do offsite SEO, and get you raking highly for just a few words, or many words, it's your choice.

That's why it's so wrong really to have a set price list for SEO, since each site is different, and has its own needs. Even though I have an

SEO price list on my website, I still don't believe in them, but people want to know what they could be in for as far as an investment in SEO

There are also times, say when you have built your site in FrontPage as a try out, and you have seen the potential of a website. Then you would be better off to start afresh with a SEF CMS, or Search Engine Friendly Content Management System. Many people have a website, but their website designer is long gone or now charging way too much for updates, or just generally offering a lousy service. and now all you get is spam, your website is out of date, and you don't know what to do.... easy answer, get a new webdesigner.

The staff at Canzdesign offer second to none after sales service for web design, often making small changes for nothing at all, but otherwise at a reasonable fee. And changes will often be made with a day, 2 days if we are way busy, but there's usually someone available, that will do small job, but most important, is we answer our emails as soon as they arrive, not 6 weeks later.

We check our spam bins every day, to make sure we haven't lost your email to the spam lords, and suggest you do the same if you haven't received a reply from us within 12 hours.

Even if the email is just to say, ok, or we'll be able to do that tomorrow afternoon or something short like that. We hate to wait for days for a reply to an email and figure why should you wait to hear from us.

Anyway about the service, I even have a website that I receive all their emails, and go through it for them delete the spam. I send the ones that look like they are real, by reading the subject line or the first sentence the ones that have emails I recognize as a client right on to the person that's supposed to receive it.

Each person has their person email address, I have done this for 2 years now, and was talking to the owner, and he said that they had just been talking about what a wonderful service it was. And how in the 2 years I had been doing it, I had only sent on 5 emails that were actually spam, and 7 emails that weren't to the correct person in the company.

Not a bad record for a business that was getting 200-250 and are now getting about 500 spams a day, and have 18 employee's that usually receive about 1-3 real emails a day each.

The experience I received when I first went online of dealing with emails from 13 different groups, numerous friends and spam has come in handy, back then I received about 3-5000 emails a day, I used to have a screenshot that showed that after I had no internet connection for 1 ½ days, I was downloading almost 9000 emails. Hehehehe….

Now I only get about a 1000 a day, and I still manage to work doing SEO for 9 websites, and answer about an average of 40 emails a day. And do heaps of other work…..

Many people don't realize that they can move there website whenever they like.

I know a fanatasic website host that charges less than $10 a month, $5.00 USD a month, and most websites in the world are actually hosted in Amercia, and it doesn't hurt their search engine ranking at all, even if they have a country specific website url.

Or they have a website designer, that gives lousey after sales service, or even part way through the site, you find you can't work with them, it's a very easy process to change website designers or website developers, you have hundreds of solutions. Thosands of them for bthe problems.

SEO with a breastfeeding website.

I was approached recently by someone that wanted to do her own onsite SEO, just wanted to know what to do.

So we settled on a price, an upfront price, and six months of smaller payments, and now this site owner is as busy as a bee, doing all the onsite work required, all the repetitive work that takes so long to do. I can't keep up with her, she truly is an inspiration.

She's had the site for a few years, about 5 years I think.
She designed the first product a pure wool pads to help control leaks for breast feeding mums herself. Then went on to make hemp breast pads since they apparently absorb the leaks better….I'm not an expert in this sort of thing, my baby feeding days are well over.

The site has gone from strength to strength, she has about 100 different products onsite, and now with these changes she's doing she should be doing really well in search engines in a few months.

She is truly a pleasure to watch, I have known the owner through a bulletin board for a few years, and taken interest in her website, giving her a few hints with her old site.

The point is, the site wasn't an instant success, but she has kept at it, and made it a success, through pure sweat and I guess a few tears over the years.

She didn't just put the site up, and expect people to come and buy her goods, then "pack a sad" and give up when they didn't. She dug her toes in and made it a challenge to make her site work, she went on to think of new things to do like revamp the site, giving it new look, a better checkout system, went out on the internet, and got her site known through going to forums, she made her site work.

That is the sort of person you don't see often in the world of websites.

As I have said the site sells things for pregnant and breastfeeding mums, their babies and baby products, go on, go take a look, and if you are pregnant then definitely have a look, and buy something while you are there.
I certainly enjoy helping the owner of this site for mothers and their babies out.

I must say I would like to do more of this type of work, with people that already have built their own sites and are happy with them, but just want help with the SEO. I think I'll limit it to those people that have shown they won't give up, and owned a site for a few years, but still I'd like to do this type of work more.

I will not give me hard-earned expertise away for nothing, but the owner of this site has saved herself about $2500 by doing it herself. Way to go Frances from www.breastmates.co.nz !!!!!

How often should a website be upgraded

Like everything in the computer world, websites need to be upgraded regularly. Plus they need to have a face lift now and then too.

I website that is run using php, or is database driven will last about 4-5 years. As technology gets more complex and codes become out of date. So if you have a website that is successful, you should budget for a rebuild every 4-5 maybe 6 years.

Html website will last a lot longer, but then they can't do a lot of things that database websites can, html websites are really something for personal websites, and shouldn't be considered when looking at building a professional websites. Professional websites need to look professional, and changing that have to be made to an html website have to be made on every page, whereas on a database website, one change say in the menu, will change the menu's on the whole site. Of course, there are many other things that make database driven websites better than an html website, but this post is about how often you should look at rebuilding your site.

I would also suggest you give your website a new updated look every couple of years, this does not cost much, and can make the world of difference to a website. There's nothing worse than an old fashioned looking website.

How do you SEO a database driven website?

This is an easy question to answer, a coder needs to change the code of the site, making it possible for changes to be made to the various part of the site, that your visitor doesn't see.

Some people don't believe in using meta tags, for the most part I do, but still database driven urls need to be changed to search engine friendly ones, page titles, and a few other little places, need coding changes in order for a database driven website to become Search engine friendly.

Many database driven websites are starting to become out of date, the code that runs them is becoming old, and within a year or two there will be many website that will need to be totally rebuilt as the server, the place that hosts the website will be upgrading their servers and the older style websites will just not work.

Are several websites better than one?

A question that I'm often asked is it better to have several websites, or just a whole lot of information on one website.

It depends on how much money you have, but several websites, each on a specific subject, is better than one big website that has many things all mixed up together. SEO-wise several websites on similar but different subjects is a dream.

If you did have several websites, the idea would be to have the sites linked together; the sites could even look pretty much the same, so people would not necessarily know that they are going to another website.

The problem is of course is keeping several websites up-to-date is a big job, but that is when you hire an SEO that's also a web designer like me, to make sure the sites all running smoothly.

Different search engine ranking depending on where you live

Since my partner the graphic artist and web designer is now in San Diego, Southern California, I have been doing some testing, and getting her to do some search engine searches for me, the exact same ones I have done here in New Zealand, and the results are quite different. I always knew this was so, becuase google has several datacenters where it draws it's results from, but never had a chance to prove it before.

It maybe all very well to know all about SEO and how it's worked for my other clients, but what's in it for you?

Ok, so the first benefit for you. Your site starts getting more targeted visitors, and considering they like what they see, and they like the price, you will get more sales.

Targeted visitors are ones that do a search, and find your website as exactly what they are looking for. It's no good doing what some SEO's do, and get visitors to a site selling new cars, by pretending it a cheap second car site. I mean why bother, the visitor is only going to leave again.
Your competitors will also notice that your name is ahead of them in search engines, people with businesses often do vanity searches, and it isn't fun to see your competitor ahead of you for allsorts of searches that are relevant to your business.

My personal SEO motto, is to get a site ranking well(which means on the first page of Google) for as many search phrases as possible, and as many of really the same search, just search for in a different ways.

Many people other SEO's say that anyone that makes the first page promise is not truthful about there skills, I say they are just not good SEO's themselves, sure it can be done, and if it can't then I will tell you so, and not take your money, hey I don't want ANY customers that aren't wowed by my work.

So far all my clients have said I should be charging more, but I'm after job satisfaction, not a new car or designer clothes. I only have 10 clients at a time, and it's up to 8 at the moment, so go on be number #9 or 10.

How do search engines work?

The way search engines work is simple really.

If the exact phrase someone searches for is there on a webpage, to 2 specific places, then that page will be #1.

The problem is when the same phrase is on many pages over the web, then it comes down to the most popular websites or well optimised websites get's ranked highly, the others follow.

The other problem is people search for the oddest things, in the oddest ways. While I might search for "how do search engines work" you might search for, "search engines, how do they work" "search engine, what makes them work" or "what makes one webpage rank higher than another in a search engine". If you read my other article, then you will see that just because you rank well in one search, it doesn't mean you will do well for the other phrases.

Search engines also go on from just searching for the exact phrase, if the exact phrase isn't there, then the look for WebPages with most of the words in the search somewhere on the page, and it carry's on looking until it might only find one or two words from a phrase on a page.

My job as an seo, is to get your site ranking as highly as it can with as many different ways of saying the same thing. And then as many different ways of saying something slightly different.

Seo Hint: Why do similar searches rank differently

My main job as a good SEO for you is to make your website findable in search engines for whatever people might search for that is a product or service maybe shown on your particular website, or at the least as many as possible searches.

That is not as easy as it might sound, because as you may imagine people can and do search for the same thing in different ways.

Here I have used the words Australian Blue Sapphire, with variants of Australia and sapphires.

See how Australia Sapphires is ranked #1, yet Australian Sapphire ranked #12 in goggle for a search.

This particular website has many different kinds of gemstones, but next I would obviously work on Australian sapphires, blue sapphire and sapphire blue.

I hope this illustrates that although a website might be doing well for one search that another search that may be very similar may not be doing well at all.

My point is people search for the same thing is several different ways, all the searches above I found in a list of 2268 different searches people made for this site and found it.

Most good website hosts have website statistics, where you can check what visitors to the site are doing, how long they stayed, and what search they used to find the site.

The 3 search strings above that aren't doing as well in Google, will be doing well in some other search engine, so that's probably how they are found, most people don't bother searching past the second page in search engines, unless they are looking for something specific. In fact only, something like .2% search past page 1 of a search results, so if you are not on that first page, then your competitor get's the click, and you miss out on a sale.

There are several ways that I get all these various searches covered in search engines, however for me to do the very best job I can, I need access to the website itself, the behind the scenes part of the site.

Many website owners are concerned that their web designer may not be happy with giving this information especially if that web designer offers SEO services as well. This can be a problem, but it is your website, and you should be given the login information when the site was first built.

Other website owners are thoroughly sick of their original web designer, who has a bad after sales service, taking months to make simple changes, or even weeks to answer email. Often then it's just as easy for me to set up changing website host, hosting for most websites should only cost $5-$10 depending on how much support the owner needs.

Once access is gained to the website, I can often get your website ranking well in several search results, sometimes within days if the site has been online for a year or so.

Another site I do SEO for is a gift basket website, and I was showing someone the work I do, and how it would work, I did a search for one particular phrase I had worked on 18 hours after I had done the work. I was bowled over when it was ranked at #1 on page 1. I was thinking I would have to show this friend, that the phrase was on page 20 which it was when I did the changes the day before.

That did show though that Google definitely was looking at the site regularly it just was not finding the information it needed to rank the site highly. That particular site now receives visitors from 747 keywords and keyphrases.

And the owner has just sold the business, on the strength of how well the website is ranking in search engines, and how many sales she's now making through the website Big browne point for me and my seo skills

Being a dyslexic writer

Having dyslexia and being able to, and desperately wanting to write is a challenge few could understand or appreciate the challenge of.

Apart from not being able to spell many words, which a majority of the time the computer spell check takes care of. If I actually know which of the words, if gives me as a choice is the correct one, as many of the words have the same letters. It's often a case of choosing one, and then seeing if the computer picks up that I've used a word in the wrong context.

However does that mean the word I actually wanted to use is wrong, or does that mean I have chosen the wrong word from the list of possible ones the spell-check gave me. There are times often, when the word I want if the word isn't in the list of choices.

Those times I change various letters around, until the word I want becomes an option. When I get a word, that the computer says I have spelt correctly, I have to check that that word is actually the word I wanted to use.

I must have the longest auto correct list in the history of computer spell checks. Actually, it isn't that long, since I recently lost it in a reformat, but before that, all the words that I knew I spelt wrong were there, often with 2 or 3 variations of how I might have spelt it, and then how it should be spelt.

I also have this very handy little spell check/dictionary type program that will say the word for me, that get's used at least 40 or 50 times a day.

What is Full SEO

I was just looking at a website for sale on an auction here in New Zealand, and it said "

It has full SEO and listed with Google, Yahoo, Live, NZ Search, Finda, Wises"

Simply being listed in a search engine does NOT mean a website has SEO and certainly not Full SEO. It simply means it's listed in search engines.

Most websites that have been online for a while can be found in search engines. All that is required to appear in a search engine is 1 live link, that's a link you can click on and it takes you to the website, and the website the way it is, and search engines the way they are your site will appear in search engines. SEO is assisting the search engines, to rank your website before your competitor's website.

So what is Full SEO?

LSI Newest Google technology Scam

I'm not saying that LSI is a scam, I'm saying company's advertising its relevance to your website are a scam.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is this great new Google technologically that all the very best SEO companyies are saying they are using to make your website more relevant in search engines, or make your website LSI friendly etc etc....

The fact is, if you were to ask these company's what LSI actually was, and if they could explain how it it would benefit your website in particular, none of them would an answer, especially as to what it could do to benefit your site. They couldn't give you an honest reply.

A common misunderstanding is that the number of hits relates to the number of visitors. A hit is the number of times each part of a website is asked to be opened by a web browser.

Example:

If you open the home page of http://www.canzdesign.com/ (which has approx. 50 graphics plus the page itself and the CSS formatting the page) it would count as 60 hits, so one visitor looking at two or three pages could easily count for 200 hits.

Is the Number of Visitors to a Site Important?

The number of visitors to a site is important if they are visitors interested in purchasing from you. A

Giving a quote for a website straight off the cuff is impossible, well not by responsible web designer anyway even quote for a specific number of pages just isn't possible, although often quoted on web designers site.

If you like a website to a having, a house built. It makes it easier to understand, first, do you want the house built to a standard plan or do you want to customize it to your specific needs(customization especially of a CMS website will change the price). Then how many bedrooms (WebPages) you want If you want things like curtains and wallpaper included in the price (extra graphics to make the pages look more interesting).

How about the outside, do you want concrete paths and driveway, and the lawns laid (extra features in the site like members' areas, or complex order forms, flash presentations etc) then these features all change the price considerably.

So just asking how much a website costs, will never get you a satisfactory answer, you must always be specific as to what you want, and if you really don't know what you want, then be willing to answer questions that will clarify your requirements to a web designer.

Just be aware any website you go to that has a list of prices for various number of pages websites, is either not an experienced website designer, or be prepared to have that price rise as your specific requirements and customizations become obvious. A professional website designer will always say these prices are a guide only.

The best-known pay per click advertising on the internet is Googles AdSense. Note the advertisement down the side of the page, these are Pay per click advertisements…. You might also be interested in the website that ranks #1 in the free natural search engine results. Oh gosh, that's my one of my own site in the natural results, what a surprise J

But the point is that the websites inside the pink square are pay per click advertisers, they must pay for each time someone clicks on their add, and the higher they ads appears in the list, the more it costs the for the click. So while the first advertiser might pay $2.50 for a click. The second advertiser might pay $1.35, and the last one may only be paying 5 cents for a click.

Each advertiser selects a maximum amount they will send month, and the ad will get shown at a rate that means that the ad is shown as many times as it can be, to use up the maximum amount of money the advertiser wishes to pay evenly over the month.

There are tons of books and Google tutorials online that explain exactly how to use these Pay Per click. I just wanted to give you a quick overview.

Personally, I think they are a waste of money, I would rather use the money spent on people clicking with no intention of buying, to make the website rank naturally, but if a PPC campaigns are run correctly. it can give you some very good results.

What does a designer do?

A good graphic designer's job is far more complex than anyone would guess, for designing say a business card.

You have to first make sure all the relevant information is on the cards, the businesses logo, person's name, phone numbers etc. Choose a colour that is either part of the businesses branding, or that looks good, or stands out. A simple white card will just look like all the other white business cards you want your card to stand out from the rest, be eye catching.

Then comes the time consuming part, choosing a font that looks good, can be easily read, and suits the card, does that font been a drop shadow to be seen clearly. You may not be aware that each font not only has a different look to it, but different spacing between each letter and spacing between words can also be quite different.

You have to make it all fit onto a relatively small area. Not only fit, but to look good to anyone looking at it, as your business card is a very important part of your business advertising. So moving the various parts of the graphic of the card around in itself, so they look good and ete-catching can take an hour or so at least.

What is drop-shipping.

Drop-shipping is very simply stocking your website with products that you don't actually have, but have deals with the manufacturer to send the product out to your clients with none of their own branding on it.

There are many different websites around the internet selling every conceivable product using this technique. You simply go to their website, select the photos of the products you would like to stock, put your own pricing on it, and offer them for sale. As the product sells, and you receive payment, from your website you simply go to the website that stocks the product, buy it, putting in your customers delivery details, and the drop-shipping site sends the product to your client.

The benefits of drop-shipping are obvious, you don't have to spend a cent on stock, until it's actually paid for. So you don't have stock laying around waiting to make your money back on it.

Many people also use this drop-shipping idea to sell products on EBay, again the benefits of this are obvious.

Advertising on Google, when you are an SEO

When Google puts ads on a webpage rather than above and beside the search results on its own webpages, the ad always relates to the subject of the page.

This is something that amuses me a lot; I put Google Adwords on the bottom of my article pages and since write about SEO more often than not all the Google ads on my pages are from businesses offering to either do SEO or sell you a book or program about SEO.

Now the books and programs are ok; but don’t you think it’s funny that an SEO company has to pay for ads saying things like “We’ll get your website to #1 in Google”. Consider that they can’t even accomplish first page SERP (Search Engine Results Page) placement for their own SEO company; but must pay to have their pages listed on top.

How much confidence can you have in that company?

The AdSense ads that really crack me up are the ones that advertise they will run your AdSense campaign for you!

The joke is their own site actually ranks highly naturally, often at #1 or#2 so they are probably paying for clicks they would have gotten anyway, because their site is naturally ranking well for that search phrase. What does that say about their ability to do the job they are advertising that they do so well?

· Step one: Choose possible keywords/keyphrases that would be relevant for the business they are doing the campaign for; say 300, 1000 or whatever possibilities.
· Step two: Make sure that the website is not already ranking naturally high for those phrases, and if they are, delete those keywords from the list.

Well that is how I run those campaigns. Wouldn’t that be what anyone would do? On the other hand; perhaps my main concern is saving my clients money and doing a thorough job…

A bit of shameless self promotion here, I just did a check for some relevant keywords for one of my clients in several search engines, in this little peogram I have, and have a look at the results.

These are words that people found this persons website by using, so not word's that I decided would be good words to check, that's why there's some odd ones there.......

But not to shabby huh..... how many #1 placements, the Australian ones have heaps more #1 placings, but I didn't want to get too carried away

The ultimate goal of good SEO, or at least my goal is to get a website ranking highly in as many free search engines results as possible, Google is always important. But so is msn, yahoo, AltaVista and a myriad of other free search engines around the world. Not only for a few keywords or key phrases but for as many keywords as possible the more the better. The most important thing is that the keywords the website ranks highly for are keywords that actually search for.

This particular website http://www.gemhunters.com.au/ sells gemstones; the owners live at their mine which is out in the middle of nowhere in Southern Queensland. So selling gemstones on the internet is really the only way they can sell their products on a regular basis, and the only way they can sell to people worldwide.

And they do sell worldwide, the owner has told me of sales she has made not just to English speaking country’s but also to many many other parts of the world, she wonders how they work out what to do, but I guess the purchasing process on her site is so standard, you choose a gemstone click on the thumbnail for a larger view and there are the PayPal buttons right there to buy.

Believe it or not it took about 3 days todo all those searches, and get this blog post together....... That program that does those searches is great when it works properly, but a right pain when it doesn't.

Where do email go, while they are lost in cyberspace

I recieved an email just a couple of hours ago, that was sent at 11.37 am this morning, and just arrived at 4.22 am the following morning, so where do these emails go while they float around cyberspace, do they stop off somewhere, for coffee, do they just bounce around in cyberspace, traveling the world over serveral times, it's sort of a shame that emails don't have a properties section where you can check wg\here they have been, a tracking system.

What should SEO cost, when you are signing up for a 12 month contract?

I saw a question like this in the statistics for this blog, so though I would anser the question, what should SEO cost for a 12 month contract.

Although it's obviously a one of those it all depends questions, but the odd thing is, sites with very few WebPages are actually harder to do seo on, than very large websites.

A lot of the problem with websites not being found in search engines, is simply because they don't have the sort of information on them that people are actually searching for so the more pages, the more information the better as long as it's the right kind of information that is.

That doesn't answer the question though does it. What should you expect to pay for a 12 month SEO contract?

Well I can say that none of my clients have ever paid more than $10,000 for SEO over a 12 month contract. One client pays $1,200 a year, she's an established client, and we have a special deal. Oh hang on, there was one client that insisted he pay more, becuase the results of my work was were so good, he wanted me to do more work on a couple of other websites he had, but that was less than $10.000 for each site.

I have clients with 6 and 8 page websites, another client with just over 400 pages, 2 sites with over 2400 webpages these last 2 websites are obviously e-commerce websites, that have both gone from not having any sales at all through their websites, to now being quite happy with present sales, and sales increasing every month.

My clients pay an initial down payment, since the work that is first down to get the website ready for search engines is so labor intensive, then a steady monthly payment for me to tweak the sites, and the other things I do.

I’m heading for the States in a couple of months, so my present clients will keep paying me in NZ dollars while any new ones I get ones there will be paying me in USD. So if you are thinking of getting me to do your SEO get in contact quick, you will be paying a lot less lol….

I'm looking at adding another seo service for clients that have very small websites, and that will of course besomething clients can choose to have or not have, but that will increase the monthly payments, but still at this stage $13,000 at the very most isn't anywhere near the $50,000 many seo company's are asking.

There is one exception that was just pointed out to me, a large extablished company like Dell would think anything of paying that sort of price or even $100,000, and probably wouldn't even consider a quote for $13,000 as a joke, but for most businesses that are either start-up or small to medium sized company's or even large ones, shouldn't have to think about that sort of price.

SEO should be thought of as part of your advertising budget, if you spend $40,000 on advertising for your shop, then a budget of say $10,000 for your online shop, that could easy run by one part-time staff member, and is open all hours, would be a bargain in anyones eyes.

Interesting SEO trend Links from sites that don't exist

Just checking my website statistics, and noticed I'm supposed getting people visiting my website, from websites that don't exsist, the disturbing thing is the sites are all poker sites, that i would never have had a link with.

You always get a few odd places people link to yur site from, but this is like 40 or 50 different sites. Hope google doesn't think I'm getting links from gambling sites, they are usually comsidered bad neighood sites.

One of the best ways to get more people to your website, is to have more webpages from them to read and subjects that relate to your business. Also having links to your site from many places around the net from articles about your business.

Think about it if you have a 6 pages website just advertising your services then really speaking that's not a lot of words for google to read and index.

One way to do this is write artles, lot's of then, the more the better, and add then to your website, the pages themselves only need to linked to from your sitemap so google can find and read and index them and then have a link to your homepage on you articles. You can also submit these articles to article directory's, which will link back to your website giving you more links again.

The tricky part comes in with first finding the time to write the articles, and then writing them in such a way that search engines will rank them high enough for anyone to find them in searches. While it's true that even the worst written articles will get found, it only makes sence that the more times an article get's found, the more people you will have to your website.

So why not get someone else to do them for you, there are many people online called ghost or article writers that will write articles and many others that provide the service of rewritting these articles. theres a but here too.... many of the people that do this don't write English as there first lauguage and therefore the article come out just not reading smoothly.

I have found an article writter that write first class articles, on any subject you can think of, if she isn't familar with a subject she'll find a website that is, read what they have written, and then rewrite it so you would never guess that it had been written from the same article.

I've also found an English company that rewrites those articles again, so you can say 6 articles, on the same subject all read differently, you keep on article for your website, and have the other 5 submitted to article directory's.

Concidently I have found a place that will submit articles to the 200 top article directory's.

So you would end up with a great article on your website, and around 200 one-way links to your website, all you had to do if read the articles to make sure they information is correct to your business.

There are of course other options, the article writer to write 5 totally different articles, and but them all on your website, since article writers and rewriters charge about the same price.

So write to me, and I'll give you a price for the service, it's a lot less than you would think, since I have spent all the hours looking for these services, trying out different places and researching the service You can take advantage of all my knowledge.

Text Links- Types of links, and how they work for SEO purposes

Text links if used correctly are the best type of link to use for SEO ie, getting highly search engine rankings, and higher placement to your website in search engines for specific phrases.

The worse type of text link, is just your URL as a link, eg www.seobycanz.com although links like this will help your pagerank, if they are placed on the correct type of a page, that’s about all they do.

The very best links are keyword rich text links an example would be English Speaking SEO NZ or website Marketing Help although those words at the moment aren't on the website the link is to, if I placed those particular links around the internet enough times, the website would start ranking well in search engines for those phrases.

In the above examples the English speaking one, this blog is actually #1 because I have written about me being an English speaking SEO before, but for the site I have sent that text link to, I can't say now many times I would have to use that text link before the site to rank highly, but sooner or later, again depending on the pages I put the link on, it would rank #1-5 in Google.

Of course if your website is wanting to rank highly for words that the site is already optimised for, then using those words is even better, and works with fewer text links to it.

The most notable example of this is the search for "click here" if you search for click here in Google, and probably any search engine the first result will be to the adobe pdf reader download page. This is of course because thousands of website owners will instruct you to click here to download the reader. Yet nowhere on that download page are the words “click here” ever used yet it ranks #1 and always has. It get's its top ranking just from all those links to it using click here as the text for the link.

Using text links within content text is the very best use, and one that is becoming more and more popular, they are called contextual links. EG if I write an article about SEO, and make choose words within the text to make into a text link then not only do search engines see the link, but they also see that it’s linked to from a context of things about SEO, so it’s like a giving the keyword double juice. This form of linking is becoming so popular, that many businesses are now paying bloggers especially to add these types of links to their blogs. The going rate I believe is $30 per link for a PR4 webpage, the link stays there for the life of the website or blog... far better than paying on a monthly basis isn’t it.

I keep referring to the right type of webpage to have these links from, and the right type of page, is a page that has a good page rank, the better the page rank, the better the link value. The very best type of page to have a text link from, is a page that is about the subject of the keyword. But failing that just having a high Page Rank will help, just be not quite so good.

This blog presently has a pagerank of 3, which is amazing, since it’s only a new blog with only something like 70 posts at the moment. So at the moment, I would be happy to accept payment for contextual links, contact me if you are interested I’d accept $15 per link.

Banner ads - Types of links, and how they work for SEO

There are several types of links, one in particular that that you maynot be aware of, that can work for you, helping your site pank well in SERPs.

Banner Ad's Links
Banner ads or links are the best known links, they are pictures that can be in many shapes and sizes, and their main objective, is to attract visitors to one site, to click on them, the resulting link usally opens in a new window and magics you away to another website.

Heres 2 typical Banner ads for our websites. These two banners particular shape is called a small skyscaper banner the pixel measurements are 120 x 240

Standard Full Banner size: 468 x 60

Standard Button size: 160 x 90

The prime reason for using banners or buttons is to entice clients to your website; there are several different sizes the advertising banners can come in, there’s a particularly good webpage that explains many of the standard sizes banners is also has popup templates for each size so you can compare sizes and even take copies of the templates to see what size best suits your and your advertisers needs. The site is well worth a visit.

Link exchanges or reciprobal links
But that’s not what the post is about, the point of this post is to inform you that these banners can be used in a few ways, either as link exchanges, where you and other similar themed website decide to exchange links, thinking that your visitors might find each other sites of interest. Unfortunately these types of links are usually stuck on an obscure page somewhere and you actually gain very few links from it. Since the webpage they appear on is usually at least 2 pages away from the main page, the chances of actually getting any useful page-rank passed on either.

Paid Links
These banners can and are often are used as paid links; this is where another site takes a fee, (and usually a pretty high fee too) to display your banner or button on some page or pages on their website. This is usually a month fee; I have heard of fee's as low as $350 and the highest one I have actually seen was for $7800 plus payment for each click per month. With this method of paying for advertising although the advert can appear on better pages and often in better positions, the downside is that as soon as the payments from you stop, your banner disappears (Rather like advertising in a newspaper).

So these banner ad;s have a place in advertsing, and if places on the right page, can sometimes bring in vsitors, but really don't help with SEO as such.

I've had an influx of people requesting quotes for SEO and SEM services lately, yet I'm finding that my emails aren't being replied too.

Now if my quote is too much, then let’s face it, it's the businesses lose, if you had asked for a quote, don't you think, the least you could do would be to write back, and say, no it's too much for us at this time, or no I'm not interested.

But for business that write and don't even give me a url to look at, so I write and ask for one, I'm still not receiving replies, the only thing I can think of is either everyone in the world is very rude, and has no netiquette, or spam filters are gobbling up my emails.

I was feeling in a slightly combative mood this morning, so contacted a couple of people that I did have phone contact details for, and sure enough they hadn't received my emails, and upon checking their spam folders found my quote.

Both places wrote back within an hour or so and said they would get back to me after discussing it with their peers.

If I hear from them again is beside the point, the point is they did acknowledge receiving them, and that’s all I require.

So from now on, I'll just write a short email confirming the email address , and saying I will respond properly once I have a response from them.

I mean I understand that there are many other webdesigners out there that write to me just to suss out our prices so they can compare them to their own, and thats cool, people will always do that, but it's the serious quote request that I'm interested in.

I took these words from the list of words on her statistics of keywords that actually were used to find her website last month. Over 750 different word combinations in all, but as I said any ranking lower the 5th place doesn't count with me. but the #1 rankings far outweighted all the other ranking upto 10th place.

Wouldn't that be worth it to see these sort of results, or more important for yout clients and completitors to see the list.

I've had emails from 3 giftbox businesses within the last week, asking about my services and how much it would cost, to get their sites doing as well as this one..... one business owner is frantic for my services, she sells something slightly different to my present client, so wouldn't compete for the same words, but I'll talk to my present client first, and see that I wouldn't be stepping on her toes if I were to take the job.

I must say, it is fun to be sort ofter. The most fun places to contact me are SEO firms, that want me to do their SEO, not seo for their clients, which I wouldn't mind if the pay was right, but but for the SEO company's own websites......cause they can't get any results for terms to do with SEO..... ok, I admit SEO, webdesign and website hosting are hard sites to optimise, but still it can be done.

Isn't just some SEO enough, what is gained though getting advanced SEO work done on a website?

Think about searches you have done, and how even using the same words, but changing the order these words are in, can radically change the search results. Right?

A few posts ago, I wrote about a couple of websites selling giftboxes using google adword (they the sponsered links you see in google searches) since then I have noticed this is quite common, websites that have obviously paid for what they thought was seo, and yet still having to use google adwords, and paying top dollar for the top position on search pages.

Whats going on, are there so many cowboy SEO out there, that these sites are just getting ripped off, the sites I'm talking about now, are very professional looking, as were the ones I saw a couple of days ago, they are not so site slapped together by the a cousin of one of the workers friends or anything, they are top notch designs.

No wonder some people have a bad or negagtive view of SEO, I'm not saying this because I do SEO, but I truely feel bad about the sort of SEO work being done by these cowboys, from these high price webdesigners.

It makes me wonder I tell you. I'm thinking of offering offering a moneyback gaurantee, that the SEO work I will do will definately attract more tragetted visitors, and that the SERP's (Search Engines Results Page) will list there site for a spefic number of phrases.

It really isn't a hard guarantee to keep, if you are an honest SEO, and actually do the work you're being paid to do, oh sure some keywords or phrases maybe impossible to reach #1 ranking for but getting a result within the first 10 results isn't that differecult. I guess the way to make a money back guarantee would be to come t an agreement with the website owner, on what words at least need to reach page one of the SERP's, and stay there for at least 2 months... if a phrase stays there for two months, it generally stays there for a year at least, depending on the competitors of course and if they have a good SEO work on their site.

As I said the other day the gift box website I do SEO for has gained #1 ranking for the word boxes, as well as many many other searched for keywords and keyphrases.
In fact of the 757 keywords and keyphrases used by searches in mainly, New Zealand, Australia, England, USA, the 4 main english speaking country's, the words and phrases they used to find her website in the past 30 days according to Google Analytics 378 of them appeared in the first 10 rankings of page 1 of google.co.nz

When I finish running the program that searches the search engines, and tells me where a partcular keyword/phrase resulting placment for that website, I'll come back and note how many #1 rankings where in google NZ, which is the search engine that had the whole 378 results on page 1.

I was talking to the owner of this giftbox and hamper website just today, and she's decided to sell the business, ask it's value has increased so much since the website is now attracting so many visitors resulting in untold sales. I have been working on that website since mid september last year, just 9 months. Remember this site was not attracting any visitors at all when she first contacted me, she was just using the site to send her exisiting clients to.
